VoIP Phone

A physical desk phone or software-based phone (softphone) that makes and receives calls over the internet instead of traditional phone lines.

A VoIP phone is any device that uses Voice over Internet Protocol to place and receive calls — as opposed to a traditional analog phone that connects to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) via copper wiring. VoIP phones come in two forms: hardware IP phones (physical desk phones that connect to your network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi) and softphones (software applications that run on a computer, tablet, or smartphone).

Hardware VoIP phones look and feel like traditional desk phones but communicate entirely over your internet connection. Popular business models offer color displays, multiple line appearances, speakerphone, headset jacks, and expansion modules for receptionists. They connect to a cloud PBX or SIP trunking provider using the SIP protocol.

Softphones offer more flexibility — any device with a microphone and internet connection becomes a business phone. Most businesses today use a mix: desk phones in fixed locations and softphone apps for mobile workers. Zonitel works with any SIP-compatible VoIP phone and includes a full-featured mobile softphone app for iOS and Android, so your team can make and receive calls from anywhere using your business number.
