A softphone is a software application that replicates the functionality of a desk phone using a device's microphone, speaker, and internet connection. It connects to a VoIP or Cloud PBX platform and can make and receive calls just like a physical phone — including internal extension dialing, call transfer, conference calling, and voicemail — without any hardware.
Softphones are available as desktop apps (Windows, Mac), mobile apps (iOS, Android), and browser-based web clients. For remote and hybrid workforces, softphones are the primary means of connecting to the company phone system from any location. A laptop and headset is all that's needed for a fully professional call experience.
Zonitel's mobile softphone app is available on iOS and Android. It rings simultaneously with desk phones (simultaneous ring), supports the full extension feature set, shows caller ID, displays the company directory, and allows one-tap SMS replies within the same app. All calls are encrypted and use the same business number the customer already knows.
