A real-time indicator showing whether a colleague is available, busy on a call, in a meeting, or away.
Presence is a real-time status indicator that shows the current availability of users in a communications platform. Common presence states include: Available (ready to receive calls and messages), Busy (on an active call), Do Not Disturb (DND — all calls go directly to voicemail), Away (logged in but inactive), or custom statuses like 'In a Meeting' or 'Out of Office'.
Presence information is automatically updated by the phone system — when a user picks up a call, their status switches to Busy without any manual action. It can also be set manually when an employee knows they'll be unavailable. Presence data is visible to colleagues on the company directory and to routing logic in the PBX — so the system can skip a Busy extension and ring the next available agent.
