Hot Desking

A feature that lets any employee log into any shared phone in the office and have it behave as their personal extension.

Hot desking (also called hoteling) allows an employee to walk up to any IP phone in the office, log in with their credentials, and instantly have that phone ring their extension, display their caller ID, and access their personal settings — voicemail, speed dials, call forwarding rules — as if it were their assigned desk phone. When they log out, the phone reverts to its default state for the next user.

Hot desking is essential for modern flexible workplaces: open-plan offices without assigned seating, shared desks for part-time or shift workers, satellite offices visited occasionally by traveling employees, and hoteling arrangements where employees reserve workspace on demand. It eliminates the need to provision a dedicated physical phone for every seat in the building.

Zonitel supports hot desking across all supported IP phone models. Employees log in with their extension number and a PIN from the phone's keypad. The desk phone immediately picks up their profile. For hybrid workers who split time between office and home, hot desking at the office desk — combined with the mobile softphone app at home — provides a seamless experience on the same business number.
