Voicemail
A digital answering system that records a caller's spoken message when the recipient is unavailable to answer.
Voicemail is an electronic messaging system that records audio messages from callers when the intended recipient does not answer. The caller hears an outgoing greeting — either a system default or a personalized recorded message — and is invited to leave a message after the tone. The recording is stored digitally and made available for the recipient to listen to at their convenience.
Modern cloud voicemail systems go well beyond simple message storage. Voicemail-to-email delivers recordings as audio file attachments directly to the recipient's inbox. AI transcription converts the spoken message to searchable text. Visual voicemail interfaces allow users to see a list of waiting messages and select which to play first, rather than listening sequentially through a dial-in system.
Zonitel provides cloud voicemail for every extension on the platform. Each user can record a personalized greeting, set separate greetings for business hours and after-hours, and configure forwarding to email with transcription. Shared voicemail boxes can be set up for departments (e.g., a 'Sales Inquiries' mailbox) with visibility for multiple team members. Voicemail messages are accessible from the web portal, mobile app, desk phone, or email.
