Number Porting
The process of transferring your existing phone number from your current carrier to a new provider.
Number porting (or local number portability, LNP) allows businesses and individuals to keep their existing phone number when switching from one telecommunications carrier to another. In the United States, the FCC mandates that carriers must release numbers for porting within a standardized timeframe.
The porting process involves the new carrier submitting a port-in request to the losing carrier, which verifies account details and authorizes the transfer. Business number ports typically take 3–10 business days for standard numbers and can take longer for toll-free, international, or high-quantity ports. During the transition, calls continue to work on the old system until the port completes.
When switching to Zonitel, you can port any existing business numbers — local, toll-free, or fax numbers — so your clients never need to update their contact information. Zonitel's porting team manages the entire process and communicates status updates throughout. You can also add new numbers immediately while porting is in progress.
