10DLC (10-Digit Long Code)
A regulated framework for business SMS that uses standard 10-digit phone numbers with carrier-approved messaging campaigns.
10DLC (10-Digit Long Code) is the carrier-approved standard for Application-to-Person (A2P) business texting using regular 10-digit phone numbers. Before 10DLC, businesses often used the same number types as personal messaging, leading to widespread spam. In 2021, US carriers — AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon — began requiring businesses to register their brand and messaging campaigns before sending A2P SMS at scale.
The registration process involves two steps: Brand Registration (identifying the business entity) and Campaign Registration (describing the message type — appointment reminders, marketing, notifications, etc.). Registered campaigns receive higher throughput limits and significantly lower filter rates. Unregistered traffic is increasingly blocked or delayed by carrier spam filters.
For any business using SMS to communicate with customers, 10DLC registration is now essential. Zonitel handles the registration process on behalf of customers, submitting Brand and Campaign details to The Campaign Registry (TCR) on your behalf. Once approved, your number is cleared for reliable A2P delivery across all major US carriers with the throughput appropriate for your business volume.
